Moak started as a small family-run shop in Modica, Sicily in 1967. Thanks to its product excellence combined with the forward-looking vision of founder Giovanni Spadola – shared by his children, who are now leading the company – Caffè Moak is present in more than 50 countries. This success has been achieved through continuous improvement, both in terms of production and organizational structure, as well as the constant and strong attention to quality and detail.
1967 - CAFFE' MOAK IS FOUNDED BY GIOVANNI SPADOLA
The passion for coffee drives Giovanni Spadola to start a small roasting shop in Modica Alta (the old part of the town) next to his family house, naming it Moak. He and his coworker start roasting coffee with a 15kg Petroncini roaster.
As the company has grown, Giovanni Spadola decides to relocate to new, larger premises including offices, production and warehouse on a 500 sq m site. Production increases and Moak employs 10 workers.
ALESSANDRO SPADOLA JOINS MOAK
The second Spadola generation joins the company. With the entrance of Giovanni’s eldest son Alessandro, Moak expands on a national scale and enters the international market.
ANNALISA SPADOLA AND THE NEW WAY OF COMMUNICATION
Two years later, also Annalisa joins the family business covering the role as Marketing & Communication Director. The brand undergoes a restyling and the new website is launched.
NEW BRANCH IN MILAN
Moak opens a distribution facility in Milan to better manage the increasing export activities. Thanks to the Environmental Management System, Moak achieves the ISO 14001 certification.
COFFEE AND CULTURE
The “Moak Cultura” project launches the national writing contest Caffè Letterario Moak – an annual appointment for emerging talents and well-known writers.
Coffee also becomes the muse of Caffè Corto Moak, the international short-film contest Moak promotes to showcase the creativity of young talents around the world.
SET UP OF FOR[ME]MOAK AND BOB NOORDA REDESIGNING THE BRAND
Moak sets up its in-house advertising agency for[me]moak. This same year, the brand restyling is entrusted to designer Bob Noorda.
Moak inaugurates its new headquarters: an architectural complex on two levels comprising 3,200 sq m of office space and 5,500 sq m dedicated to production, including a staff of 90 employees..
Moak presents its new cup designed by for[me]moak. The shape of the cup handle represents the brand perfectly.
MOAK IN THE US AND UAE
The company enters the US market and expands its presence in Asia by entering the Shangri-La luxu-ry hotel chain. Moreover, Moak enters the market of the United Arab Emirates with a new distribution net.
DESIGN AND CULTURE
Moak partners with ADI (Industrial Design Association), which acknowledges the company’s atten-tion to detail. The association established the “Golden Compass” – the most distinguished global de-sign award.
FUORI FUOCO MOAK
The “Moak Cultura” project evolves: Moak launches the first edition of Fuori Fuoco, the international photography contest.
COFFEE AND MUSIC TO ENJOY ALSO AT HOME
Moak launches “My Music Coffee”, the new line of capsules and coffee pods inspired by music.
BRANCHES IN MALTA AND GERMANIA
A new trading branch is set up in Malta, followed by a second one in Germany.

The outstanding quality of our blends originates from the careful selection of finest Arabica and Robusta plants. We have been priding ourselves on working with great attention to detail for more than fifty years. One aspect is to ensure that the entire production process meets our quality standards. Only the best single origins are selected, coffee beans are treated with great care and undergo single roasting process, as our goal is to ensure that every coffee type preserves its distinctive aromatic notes and scents released during harvesting.
