Winners of the Moak Literary and Short-film Competitions 2012 have been awarded

18.09 The prize-giving evening of both Moak Literary and Short-film competitions 2012 held at the Moak office district in Modica ended on Saturday, September 15th.
The evening was presented by anchorwoman Giuliana Ubertini. As for the Literary Competition, the panel was composed of Massimo Carlotto, famous noir writer, dramatist and scriptwriter from Padua as director of the jury, including writers Gianni Cascone, Guido Conti, Santo Piazzese and Susanna Tartaro. The three winners were chosen from five finalist stories after a careful and accurate selection. First prize was won by Martino Ferrario, aged 24 native of Cantù with his story “In case of riot”. He also received the Belgiorno award as youngest emerging writer, which was assigned by the brother Donatello Maria Belgiorno. Second prize was won by Mauro Ricci with his story “Considerata l’età” (Considering the age) and third by Luca Brancato with “Coffee break”.
On the other hand, the panel choosing the most original short-films of the 7th Caffè Corto Moak edition was composed of Italo Moscati, president of the jury, film critic Cristina Borsatti, director Angelo Ruta and of the film show organiser Giuseppe Volpino. Among nine finalists, prize for the best short-film was won by “Un sapore antico” (An old taste) by Enzo Ferraro, thanks to the original topic he dealt with, the ability to synthesize and the mastery to develop a strongly cinematographic narration. Prize for the best direction was won by “Angelo o la Pasqua di Salvo” (Angel or Salvo’s Easter) by Sebastiano Greco and prize for the best script went to “M.R.A.” by Giuseppe Balsamo and Giorgia Boscarino. Giovanni Spadola, founder of Caffè Moak, presented the first prize awards.
“…Never has an award ceremony been so scented!...” – this was the comment of Massimo Carlotto at the event’s opening, referring to the unique aroma of coffee the beans and coffee tins released in the plant’s storehouse, core of Moak’s production, which had been chosen as location for the evening.
During the evening, the works of artist Rosario Antoci “allineare pensieri” (align thoughts) was displayed. It was granted by the Art Gallery Clou for that occasion.
The 2012 Moak Literary Contest reconfirmed the success of a cultural initiative, which was once again consistently attended by writers of very different ages and life experiences.
“A major success in terms of number of stories received for the current edition – stressed Guido Conti – each of high quality and characterized on the whole by fresh and pleasant writings”.
A complete innovation this year among others – underlined Alessandro di Salvo, organiser of the competition – has been the way of sending the texts, which were received per e-mail, allowing an even higher stream thanks to this fast and instant means.
Instead, Italo Moscati, back from the Festival of Venice, emphasized the ability of the authors, but also of the authors of the short-films, to choose and interpret present and important social topics that are particularly sensible for the audience nowadays.
The short-film’s panel wanted to quote two of the finalists – another innovation of this year’s edition: “In fondo a destra” (Down to the right) by Valerio Groppa, where the attention is brought to main character Sergio Fiorentino as for his intensity he comments the encounter with a young person, and the short-film “8 euro” as for its content relating present problems, including a significant ironic contribution of the protagonist.
Like every year, all sixteen stories chosen by the Caffè Letterario Moak panel will be published in the anthology “Stories about coffee”, while all Corto Moak short-film finalists, kept in Moak’s film library, have already been published and can be seen on the website
